Well done again -- October 7, 2006
Congratulations on putting on an excellent event under difficult conditions. We have run this race four years in a row, and in my opinion, the attention to detail and customer service attitude have taken a huge step upwards under your direction. I'd like to echo many of the comments below by saying "Good job". It's great that you've focused your attention on the things that matter most, like the quality and safety of the course. .......

OUTWARD BOUND RELAY ROCKS! -- October 3, 2006
Thanks to Garret and everyone who put on the race. This was our third year running, and my first year being captain. All my questions beforehand were answered; you made it easy for me. This is an incredibly well run race. Despite the rain and snow, the runners and volunteers were happy and excited, and the course was fun a challenging with a mix of difficulties to accommodate any runner. That?s the reason why we come back! .........

AWESOME RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- September 25, 2006
Thank you making my first experience running a relay race a memorable one! I appreciate all the hard work that went into this years race, thanks again!

comments from a newly addicted neewbe -- September 11, 2006
My first time - WHAT A BLAST!! I've made some great friendships on them thar mountains! I've even made some friendly rivalries - we're look'n for ya team #7 ;-) as well as that guy who kicked me on leg #18 - way to keep me behind ya!! I'll get ya next year though ;-)
Loved the course and even with the rain/snow/sleet, I wouldn't change a thing (even though I got off course twice on leg #18). Everyone was so nice and very helpful. One of the best organized races that I've done!
.........

Anyway, loved the race, and I'll definitely be doing it next year.

Three's the charm! -- September 14, 2006
This was our third year and finally, no mistakes! Although the Vail leg was poorly marked (we actually posted one of our runners toward the end of that leg, #19, as people were missing it left and right, and we certainly did not want our runner to miss it!), the rest of the course was marked very well. We suggest moving the volunteer (the one yelling bib numbers) who was posted closer to Exchange Point #19, back at this "U-turn" point with a radio. This way the volunteer could steer the participants in the right (make that 'left') direction as well as alert the Exchange Point with incoming bib number info.

.........Can't wait for next year!

Awesome relay, again!! -- September 13, 2006
This is my third year running the relay and second year as a team captain and I can only say it gets better each year. Thank you, thank you, thank you for getting Georgia Pass back into the race this year. Incredible scenary, even with the rain/snow, and great trail running to boot along that section from Guanella Pass to Frisco. Information flow with changes was great and timely and I really appreciated the Topo Maps along with the ability to download the exchange waypoints for use in the GPS. Small leg book was great and held up well in the weather, was readible and actually worth carrying. .......

The race -- September 11, 2006
This race was an amazing experience. I initially thought that my lack of training and running experience would prevent me from finishing. I ran a total of approximately 17 miles during the race, and enjoyed every minute of it. It was difficult at times, but the team experience was amazing. I am definitely up for it again next year.

Thanks for a great race!!! -- September 11, 2006
This is my second year and once again it was a blast!

My first relay and some suggestions -- September 13, 2006
Wow, Wow, Wow! Better words escape me right now. This was my first COBR and it impacted my life like nothing I have ever done before. My dad became an Outward Bound junkie back in the 70’s and participated in the Voyageur Outward Bound School (formerly know as the Minnesota Outward Bound School) adventures in the 70’s and 80’s. Like father like son, I intend to make this race an annual event as long as I am able.
A thousand thank yous to the staff and volunteers. Especially the crews at the exchange areas for standing out in the rain and snow and making sure we all checked in and out. Also, good job on traffic control and parking areas.
I liked the leg book and topo information. Keep that.

I also liked the challenging high points of Guanella and Georgia and the off road/single track sections. More of this please.
The last few legs along the Colorado River are AWESOME! Great feelings of nearing the end surrounded by such majestic beauty.

..........

Thanks for the first of many great lifetime memories.
I’ll see you next year,
Jeff

Relay Feedback 2006 -- September 12, 2006
This was our first year and I must say it was a blast! There were a few exchanges that were scary through Vail that weren't marked very well, mostly because of the rain. I think it would be easier to number the exchanges and match them with the runners. Exchange number one should be the start, exchange 2 would be runner number two and so on. Our team of misfits crossed the finish nearly last but our hearts and desire to make it carried us through. Thanks to all the volunteers cheering us in the pouring rain and staying at the finish for us! Monument Road Kill rocked!

Great Race Again! -- September 13, 2006
I raced last year on a ten person team and thought, heck it couldn't be that much harder to do a 5 person ultra, right? Wrong! Holy crap, the changes in the course this year made it the most challenging race I have ever done of any form or distance. Add in the weather and the fact that our entire team was from the lowlands of Minnesota and you start to understand. Never the less, we are comming back to do the freestyle ultra again next year.
.........
Thanks for the great memories!!!!
See you next year,
Kris

Survived Another One! -- September 11, 2006
This year marked another great adventure. I don't know how realistic this idea is...but it would be great to use chip timing technology. The chip could be connected to the exchange bracelet and would provide accurate data about each leg. Runners could then compare their personal times to other runners in the race. You could also post data online so that fans at home could track the progress of their favorite team. Also, it would be nice to get a relay t-shirt (not a cotton one) that promotes the accomplishments of the race, not the just the sponsers. Thanks for all of your hard work. Brian VanIwarden

Relay Feedback 2006 -- September 11, 2006
Great race overall. The only trouble was a poorly marked course on the sections near Vail. There weren't enough glo sticks on the ground and several turn offs were not at all marked causing some to completely go off course for a while. By contrast, the mountain trail sections were wonderfully marked.

Relay Feedback 2006 -- September 11, 2006
This is our 4th year participating in this event and our experience was nothing less than spectacular. I have to give a shout out to all the volunteers that donate their time and energy, during unpredictable weather conditions. You all do a tremendous job of marking the courses (glow sticks and flags very helpful). The new style leg book is really nice and easy to use, maybe you could give us two next year, one for each van? The early check in the night before the race was a huge time saver and stress reliever.

2006 Colorado Relay - Awesome for all abilities -- September 11, 2006
First, I want to say, this was the first time that I have participated in a relay race. This was a memorable experience. Thank you! I greatly appreciated the hydration stations periodically placed throughout the race. The organized, free hot breakfast at the finish line was excellent!

Thanks & looking forward to next year!

We'll be back! -- September 12, 2006
Team Dukey Sikes had a great time and all claim they want to come back for next year. Amazing organization by the entire staff. No complaints about the t-shirts here. We did not even realize those were shirts from the race. My only suggestion for next year is to have the other teams run considerably slower so that we can win. My only serious suggestion would be to incorporate as much off-road trails as possible. Those were by far the most enjoyable.

We had another terrific time! -- September 12, 2006
This is our third year running the Outward Bound Relay, and we -- once again -- had a great time. Because of construction on Guanella Pass, we've run a different course each of the last three years, and it is definitely worth fighting to keep the course as it was this year. Going up and over Guanella Pass was a huge challenge, but definitely one of the high points (literally) of the race.

As always, the organization of the race was top-notch. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to coordinate so many details over the course of 170 miles. Big kudos to Garrett and the rest of the staff for a job well done.

Thanks again for a great time. Hope to see you all again next year!

Better the 2nd time around! -- September 11, 2006
Loved:
-Change in the route
-Multiple T-shirt selections (wished we knew prior to check-in to sort out colors for the team)
-Enthusiastic volunteers
-ROUTE MAPS ROCKED!
-Hot cocoa and cookies at exchange 21, leg 22 start :)

Relay 06 -- September 12, 2006
Another great race. The volunteer staff is awesome are all the participants. It's great to get to know a few of the folks you're running with. Special thanks to Pete Mason, the volunteer radio operators, and Ben Wilmhoff who helped return the ring that flew off my finger in the cold. I hadn't had it off for more than an hour in 15 years!

You did it again - only better! -- September 11, 2006
Well Garret and crew - you did it!
And so did we, with plenty of thanks to you.

Once again you battled the odds - construction on Guanella, more construction in Vail (the dreaded leg 19!), and weather ... oh the weather!

But in our 4th year running (pun intended!) we had a ball. 'Running on Faith' couldn't have asked for more cooperative volunteers at every exchange point, or a better team spirit - theirs, ours and all the other teams taking part.

Great job everyone ... now we need to put together 2 teams for next year!

Great Time! -- September 11, 2006
Three years ago I ran the Hood to Coast, a 198 mile relay race from Mt. Hood to the Oregon Coast. Both the Hood to Coast Relay and the Outward Bound Relay will live forever in my memory as two of the best things I've ever done! There's something so wonderful about running through the beauty of the mountains and then looking up to see your team there, waiting for you at the finish line, cheering you on! I will say that this race was a bit more challenging than the HTC. Your "HARD" legs could have easily been catagorized as "VERY HARD" in the HTC.

........

Looking forward to next year and reliving the view from the trails. Run on!
